Handcuffed Man Shot in Back of Police Car

A 21-year-old man was found shot in the head while handcuffed in the back of a patrol car Saturday night. Now police have launched an investigation to determine what happened.

Chavis Carter was a passenger in a pickup truck that was stopped by police in Jonesboro, Ark., Saturday night, according to KAIT, an ABC-affiliated television station. An officer reportedly found some marijuana, and ran Carter’s information. He was wanted on a warrant out of Mississippi, so officers placed him in a patrol car.

As protocol, he was handcuffed behind his back, double-locked and searched,” said Jonesboro Police Department Sgt. Lyle Waterworth in an interview with WREG-TV.

Just minutes later, police said they heard a thumping noise, turned around and found Carter shot in the head.

Waterworth said he thinks Carter pulled out a hidden gun and shot himself. “Any given officer has missed something on a search, you know, be it drugs, be it knives, be it razor blades,” he said. “This instance, it happened to be a gun.”

His mother, Teresa Carter, disagrees. “I think they killed him,” she said. “My son wasn’t suicidal.

Carter said she was also told her son was shot in the right temple, although he was left-handed.I mean, I just want to know what really happened,” she told WREG-TV. “That’s all I want to know.

The two officers who were present when Carter was found shot were placed on administrative leave.

Found shot in the head? Who are they trying to fool.

“found shot”

gotta keep the cops hands clean, you know.

The YouTube corporation and CBS have now censored the original video of Anaheim cops shooting at children. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MST4RhWdlMQ

“This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by CBS.”

Spread links to the mirrors. Keep firing.

this is horrible this is horrible this is horrible jesus christ

The Anaheim police department probably bought the video.

This is appalling. Shooting at tiny fucking children. I would let someone fucking kill me before I endangered the lives of children. But I forgot, POC aren’t afforded childhoods. They are just another part of the herd to be thinned. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Fuck the police.

NEVER stop spreading this video. NEVER. Do not let them hide it away. Don’t let them forget that not only were they shooting into a crowd of unarmed people, but they released a trained police dog into that crowd and it attacked a MOTHER AND CHILD. Do not let them forget this.

Texas Republican House Representative Bill Zedler couldn’t get the anti-choice amendment he proposed during last year’s special lawmaking session approved by his peers in the legislature—he’d like to gather as much information as possible on women seeking, and doctors performing, abortions—so he’s asked the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to do it for him. And at a meeting held last week in Austin, it became clear the DSHS brass is happy to help him out.

The Texas DSHS called the abortion provider stakeholders meeting one afternoon last week to begin the process of getting public comment on “updated reporting requirements” instituted at the behest of Rep. Zedler.

It confirms the worst fears of abortion providers who suspected, when they were notified a week before about the meeting, “that the truth the state is hiding is that it now means to implement by regulation what it has failed for the past several years to accomplish through legislation.”

Texas is, for lack of a stronger word, a MESS.

Holy shit. Holy shit. Holy shit.

[NB: More people than just cis women are affected by this underhanded subterfuge and these new regulations.]

What. The. Fuck.

I made this because I truly am ashamed of this decision that was made, which affects so many people and is so disgustingly backwards. It’s just awful.

What the fuck Canada?

I don’t even…. It’s still 2011, right? Kidnapping children of any race/culture is still illegal, isn’t it? So why are social workers in South Dakota (and possibly other states) getting away with taking Native American kids from their homes (with some fairly weak cases against the parents/families) and placing them with white families (which is against Federal law, beeteedubs S.D.)? I thought that one of the goals of the foster care system was to reunite families if it was at all possible. Or is that only for white families? Why the hell isn’t the Federal government doing something about this?

I just… I can’t… Flames! On the side of my face!

Oh, Texas.  I love you, Austin.  You are my home.  But this state?  This state constantly and rather consistently breaks my heart.  Also, I fucking hate Rick Perry.

From Misty at Shakesville:

Last Thursday I posted about how Ohio has written a Medicaid work-around for defunding Planned Parenthood. Well that little strategy was copied (almost word-for-word, I suspect a lobby writing this and giving it to congressepeople) in recently signed Texas legislation. Rick Perry signed, late Tuesday, SB 7 (various format download), which is a huge piece of legislation overhauling health care access/payments/etc within the state of Texas. Buried in that is distribution for family planning services (pages 90 & 91 in .pdf format). […]

They want to take away funding for all of the clinics and over 78K+ people will lose their health care center. How many people are employed that will lose their jobs because PP in Texas has to close clinics? Rick Perry, by the way, is toying with the idea of a presidential run.

Goddamnit Texas….
